Directions to the falls:

  1. From the Junction of US 64 and NC 281 in Sapphire, NC, drive south on NC 281 for 3.6 miles and turn left on Brewer Road (S.R. 1189).
  2. Park on the right side of Brewer Road immediately after turning off of NC 281.
  3. Walk back to the edge of NC 281 and look for a gated logging road on the left as you face NC281.
  4. Follow this road as it ascends at a moderate rate, you can hear White Owl Falls down on the right.
  5. At 0.84 mile there is a side path that leads down to a small waterfall on the left, and then 0.1 mile past this a second trail leads off to the right.
  6. If you are not watching for this trail, it is easy to miss. Follow it to the right.
  7. In about another 0.4 mile you will hear High Falls to the left, be on the look out for a small and hard to spot scramble path that leads to the base of the falls. Beware of a Yellow Jacket Nest at the base of the falls, I received 2 stings during my visit.
